Applications engineers work as a bridge between customers, sales, and engineering teams. They use customer input and sales information to design or redesign, develop, test, and implement complex hardware problems and applications. They provide technical support and expertise to customers by testing applications and responding to feedback and input. They perform installations and maintenance and often perform sales presentations and demonstrations.

This is a full-time position located in the USA and the post-holder will report to the VP of Engineering. International and domestic travel will be required from time-to-time. The Applications Engineer is responsible for technical product inquires and application specific customer support. This position partners with the Sales Manager or works directly with the customer to help identify required hardware solutions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the training of customers on hardware / software systems applications

  • Handle project and task management and reporting as necessary

  • Work with engineering and sales team to identify customer needs and propose technical solutions

  • Interact with customers to establish schedules, technical requirements and clarify questions

  • Provide support to customers and sales, solving applications requirements for hardware solutions

  • Work with internal and external design resources to implement customer designs

  • Coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure timely production and delivery

  • Define applications specific solutions based on customer device data and manage both the customer and factory teams to ensure customer satisfaction

  • Deliver product and applications training to customers

  • Write and document applications specific notes and white papers

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of hardware options and technologies
  • Able to work with customers / internal and external team members
  • Project management and excellent communication skills
  • Microsoft Office / ERP
  • Design and engineering software such as SolidWorks , Allegro, AutoCAD
  • Experience with C, C#, Python, SQL Server, and CSS programming
  • Experience with API, HTML, Agile, and cloud systems
  • Experience with JAVA, JavaScript, and unit testing
  • Commitment to problem solving and interfacing with colleagues and clients
  • Comfortable with scripting and debugging when requested

Education and Experience:

  • BS in electrical engineering or a related field preferred
  • 10 or more years in the semiconductor test industry preferred

Probe Test Solutions Ltd is an expanding Scottish company operating in the semiconductor electronics field. From our HQ in Hamilton, we provide our global customers with an ever-growing variety of high-tech test hardware. We design and manufacture our products with our highly skilled workforce who are all keenly focused on Quality, Cost and Delivery.

We are seeking candidates who have previous assembly experience within the electronics industry, specifically within PCB component assembly environment. You must be able to follow detailed work instructions and have strong attention to detail. The role involves working in a busy manufacturing environment where teamwork and manual dexterity are key. We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable staff who can be flexible and adapt to many different job functions.

37.5 hours a week
Back shift Monday to Friday 14:00-22:00 with 10% shift allowance

The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for the drawing of ATE hardware and managing design guidelines. There will be an opportunity to be involved in both production and R&D projects. Having an understanding of the following would be helpful:

  • Autodesk Inventor Software (Solidworks experience also considered)
  • Probe Hardware Design
  • Probe Hardware Manufacture
  • Electronics circuits

The successful candidate will have the responsibility for coordinating projects through design phase, liaising with our PCB Design Team. They will monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders, helping to assure the overall quality and integrity of the hardware. It’s likely the role will involve the need to work closely with many different departments, including Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Procurement as well as often liaising directly with the customer. With PTSL’s global customer base, this role may involve international travel and flexibility around early morning and evening work is required. We currently run dayshift and backshift teams in operations to support our global customer base.

What you'll need to succeed
A successful candidate would ideally have an understanding of Manufacturing of Electronics and Mechanical Hardware – ideally ATE. Previous Mechanical Design experience is essential, as is experience in project / time management. The ability to communicate well with stakeholders, suppliers, internal departments and colleagues will be a major factor in this role.
